The Hexagon Data Center marks a major milestone in Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation. Construction has officially begun on this flagship project led by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA). Set to become the world’s largest government owned data center by power capacity, the Hexagon Data Center will deliver exceptional capabilities for national digital infrastructure.
Located in Riyadh, the Hexagon Data Center is designed as a Tier IV facility, earning the highest classification from the global Uptime Institute. This ensures ultra high availability, advanced security, and full operational resilience.
The facility will provide a total capacity of 480 megawatts and span more than 30 million square feet. Built to the most stringent international standards, the Hexagon Data Center supports the growing needs of e-government services while strengthening national data sovereignty and enhancing reliability for critical digital platforms across public institutions.
A formal ceremony marked the start of construction, attended by senior government officials from multiple agencies. SDAIA President Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi welcomed guests, joined by other authority officials.
The event featured a detailed briefing by Dr. Issam bin Abdullah Alwagait, Director of the National Information Center at SDAIA. He outlined the Hexagon Data Center’s technical scope, engineering design, and operational framework, highlighting compliance with international benchmarks and secured global certifications.
Attendees toured an exhibition showcasing the project’s development phases and future technical ecosystem. The ceremony concluded with the laying of the foundation stone and a group photograph.
Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi described the Hexagon Data Center as a strategic national initiative, made possible through the continued support of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of SDAIA’s Board of Directors.
He emphasized that the Hexagon Data Center reinforces SDAIA’s leadership in data and artificial intelligence. The project supports Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become one of the world’s leading data and AI-driven economies while contributing to economic growth and positioning the Kingdom as a global digital hub.
The Hexagon Data Center aligns closely with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. It advances efforts to build a sustainable, knowledge based economy and achieve global leadership in advanced technologies.
SDAIA continues to drive transformative projects that strengthen the Kingdom’s digital foundations, boost competitiveness, and attract global investment. The Hexagon Data Center will enhance the reliability of public sector digital platforms and support the rapid expansion of e-government services.
Once completed, the Hexagon Data Center will serve as a cornerstone for additional facilities, creating a robust national network. This initiative is expected to drive significant economic benefits, foster innovation, and ensure long term data security for government operations.
