Interswitch Teams Up with Temenos to Strengthen Digital Banking Infrastructure Across Africa

Interswitch Group has entered into a strategic collaboration with Temenos to expand its digital banking capabilities and support financial institutions seeking to modernise their operations across Africa.
The agreement marks a significant step in Interswitch’s evolution beyond its established payments business, positioning the company to provide a broader range of technology services to banks and other financial institutions. By integrating Temenos’ banking technologies into its offerings, Interswitch aims to help organisations upgrade legacy systems and deliver more responsive, customer-focused financial services.
Under the arrangement, Interswitch will deploy solutions spanning several areas of banking operations, including core banking, digital channels, payments, wealth management, and financial crime management. These capabilities will be offered through both cloud-based and on-premises managed service models, giving institutions the flexibility to adopt technology in line with their operational requirements and transformation priorities.
The rollout is expected to begin in strategic African markets, including Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and Kenya, with plans to support a wider network of financial institutions across the continent.
According to Jonah Adams, the partnership will provide the technological flexibility needed to support the company’s next phase of growth while helping banks respond more effectively to the evolving needs of African consumers and businesses.
William Moroney described the collaboration as an opportunity to extend Temenos’ presence in African markets through a partner with deep regional expertise and an established customer network. He noted that the partnership demonstrates the adaptability of Temenos’ technology in addressing the unique requirements of the continent’s banking sector.
Widely recognised for its payment platforms, Interswitch has built a significant footprint across Africa, operating in more than 30 countries and serving hundreds of financial institutions. Through brands such as Quickteller and Verve, the company has contributed to the expansion of digital payments and financial access. The latest collaboration reflects its broader ambition to play a more active role in shaping the future of banking technology and accelerating digital transformation across Africa.
