Qatar Updates National Frequency Allocation Plan to Advance ICT Sector and Spectrum Management

The Communications Regulatory Authority has announced the release of an updated Qatar National Frequency Allocation Plan, marking a significant step forward in the country’s management of radio spectrum resources and development of the Information and Communications Technology sector.

This comprehensive update reflects Qatar’s commitment to maintaining global standards in spectrum management while supporting the nation’s broader digital transformation objectives.

The revised plan incorporates critical outcomes from the World Radiocommunication Conference 2023, ensuring that Qatar’s frequency allocation framework remains aligned with international developments in radio communications services.

The Communications Regulatory Authority undertook an extensive public consultation process that engaged local, regional, and international stakeholders, gathering valuable insights that shaped the final version of the plan. This collaborative approach helped ensure the Qatar National Frequency Allocation Plan adheres to international best practices and regulatory standards in spectrum management.

As the official regulatory framework governing Qatar’s radio spectrum, the Qatar National Frequency Allocation Plan plays a crucial role in managing this finite national resource owned by the State. The plan contains the National Frequency Allocation Table, which provides detailed specifications for how different frequency bands are allocated across various radio communications services throughout the country.

This systematic allocation enables critical sectors including Information and Communications Technology, aviation, maritime navigation, security, energy, and government entities to access and utilize spectrum resources efficiently according to their specific operational requirements while maintaining compliance with international agreements and treaties.

Engineer Ahmad bin Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of the Communications Regulatory Authority, emphasized that the updated Qatar National Frequency Allocation Plan demonstrates the authority’s dedication to implementing global best practices in spectrum management. He stated that the plan supports Qatar’s Information and Communications Technology priorities and serves as an essential regulatory reference document designed to drive sustainable growth in the telecommunications sector.

The framework aims to optimize spectrum use across economic and service sectors, directly contributing to the country’s ongoing digital development initiatives and the strategic objectives outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Communications Regulatory Authority President highlighted that the plan represents the culmination of comprehensive technical and regulatory assessments conducted by expert teams. These assessments were designed to ensure the sustainable and efficient use of spectrum resources while positioning Qatar to adopt emerging technologies and future radio communication innovations.

The updated Qatar National Frequency Allocation Plan provides the regulatory clarity and technical guidance necessary for businesses, government agencies, and service providers to plan their spectrum needs and deploy advanced communication systems that will support Qatar’s economic diversification and technological advancement goals in the coming years.
