APIConf Lagos 2025 Brings Technology Professionals Together to Advance API Literacy and Digital Innovation
Technology professionals, developers, product managers, engineers, founders and digital innovators converged in Lagos last weekend 18th & 19th, July 2025, for APIConf Lagos 2025, a two-day technology conference and bootcamp focused on API literacy, digital innovation and the technologies driving the growth of connected digital products and services.
Held at the Zone event centre in Lagos, the event brought together members of the technology ecosystem for technical presentations, practical sessions, workshops and discussions examining the growing role of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) in Africa’s digital economy.
Our reporter, Showey Usman confirmed that the event attracted more than 1,000 participants, representatives from over 500 companies, more than 50 sessions and notably speakers. The programme, which covered a broad range of subjects, including API monetisation, security, AI-driven automation and emerging technologies.
The conference was designed to improve API literacy within Lagos’ developer community while extending knowledge and practical understanding of APIs across Nigeria and Africa. The organisers described APIs as fundamental components of modern computing and important enablers of connected digital systems and the wider digital economy.
A diverse group of technology professionals contributed to the programme, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of modern API development and digital transformation. Among the speakers were Mehdi Medjaoui, Founder and Chairman of apidays; Michael Owolabi, CTO of Spleet; Chisom Uma, Technical Writer and Marketing Manager at Hamari Labs; Ademola Adelekan, Head of DevOps Engineering at Interswitch; and Echezona Agubata, CTO of Coronation Merchant Bank.
The programme also featured professionals working in product management and technology strategy, highlighting the role of product thinking alongside engineering and infrastructure in building successful digital solutions.
One of the contributors was Efetobore Alexander Monedo, Digital Product Manager at Wakaforme, who brought a product-management perspective to the conference’s discussions around digital technology.
Monedo delivered a session titled “From User Needs to API Products: The Product Manager’s Role in Building Scalable Digital Solutions.” His presentation explored how Product Managers can translate user and business requirements into effective API-enabled products while working closely with engineering and technical teams to develop scalable, user-centred solutions. The session also examined the role of product strategy, developer experience, adoption and continuous improvement in turning APIs from technical infrastructure into valuable digital products and services.
The inclusion of product professionals alongside engineers and other technical specialists reflected the increasingly collaborative nature of technology development. While technical sessions addressed areas such as API architecture, security, documentation and implementation, product-focused discussions considered how technology can be shaped around user requirements, adoption, business objectives and long-term product value.
The conference programme also featured practical learning opportunities, allowing participants to engage with contemporary approaches to API development and management. Workshops and real-world case studies formed part of the wider programme, complementing the presentations and discussions taking place throughout the two-day event.
Beyond the technical sessions, the conference provided an opportunity for members of Nigeria’s technology community to connect with practitioners working across different areas of digital technology. The interaction between developers, engineers, product managers, technology executives and founders underscored the increasingly interconnected nature of the digital ecosystem.
The focus on APIs comes at a time when digital platforms across Africa are increasingly dependent on systems that can securely exchange data and services. APIs are central to the development of connected applications and services across sectors such as financial technology, healthcare, logistics and other digitally enabled industries. The organisers positioned Lagos as an important setting for examining how API technologies can support scale, access and innovation across the continent.
For the participating technology professionals, APIConf Lagos 2025 provided a platform to share practical knowledge, examine emerging trends and explore different approaches to building and scaling digital products.
The two-day gathering ultimately highlighted the importance of combining technical expertise with product strategy, security, user experience and business thinking as Africa’s digital economy continues to develop.
With more than 1,000 participants and a broad community of technology practitioners represented, APIConf Lagos 2025 demonstrated the growing interest in APIs and the infrastructure, products and professional capabilities required to support the next phase of digital innovation in Nigeria and across Africa.
