Nigerian Innovator Kafayat Olamide Olatoke Develops Terminal Operating System Adopted by Comet Shipping Agencies
Nigerian-developed logistics software was adopted by Comet Shipping Agencies Nigeria Limited after a six-month evaluation, with the company reporting significant improvements in operational efficiency and revenue performance.
Nigerian technology innovator Kafayat Olamide Olatoke has developed a Terminal Operating System (TOS) designed to address operational challenges in the shipping and logistics industry. The software was formally adopted by Comet Shipping Agencies Nigeria Limited in August 2023 following an initial six-month evaluation.
Developed through Presoft Technologies Limited, the Terminal Operating System was designed to improve workflow coordination, record management, task monitoring, communication and process execution across terminal and logistics operations.
The software was introduced to address operational requirements associated with container and vehicle processing, customer documentation and the coordination of business activities. Its features also include an operational dashboard designed to provide management with improved visibility into business performance, reporting and decision-making.
During the initial evaluation, Comet Shipping Agencies Nigeria Limited reported a 90 per cent reduction in theft and an 85 per cent increase in revenue. The company also recorded improvements in container and vehicle gate-entry and exit processing, alongside more efficient customer documentation procedures.
The formal adoption was confirmed by Adeleke Paul, the IT Manager at Comet Shipping Agencies Nigeria Limited, who spoke to the Press and confirmed the product’s adoption. The organisation subsequently committed to an initial three-year adoption term, effective 18th day of August 2023, with an option for renewal subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.
In his words, “The adoption marked a significant step in the implementation of Olatoke’s software, moving the solution beyond demonstration into practical use as a maritime technology within a shipping and logistics business.” The reported results also provide an indication of the operational benefits the organisation associated with the system during its initial period of use.
The software’s focus on specific industry requirements distinguishes its purpose from that of general business applications. By bringing operational coordination, records, monitoring and reporting into a dedicated system, the solution was designed to address the interconnected processes involved in terminal and logistics management.
The adoption provides a documented example of a Nigerian-developed technology product being implemented by an established organisation to address practical business challenges. It also demonstrates the importance of developing software around the operational requirements of the industries it is intended to serve.
Olatoke’s work reflects the role of locally developed enterprise technology in supporting digital transformation across traditional sectors of the Nigerian economy. The implementation of the Terminal Operating System at Comet Shipping Agencies Nigeria Limited offers an example of how software innovation can be translated into operational use within the maritime and logistics industry.
