The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reinforced its dedication to enhancing inter-agency collaboration as a crucial driver for Nigeria’s digital transformation. This commitment was demonstrated during a high-level strategic engagement where representatives from NITDA and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) convened to outline pathways for comprehensive cooperation in advancing the nation’s digital economy.
Dr. Dimie Shively Warowie, PhD, Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy at NITDA, represented the agency’s Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi during this pivotal meeting with the Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union. The discussions focused extensively on establishing frameworks for delivering universal connectivity that is both meaningful and affordable to all Nigerian citizens while simultaneously strengthening safeguards within the digital space.
During the strategic engagement, the ITU representative expressed strong appreciation for Nigeria’s remarkable regulatory advancements in the telecommunications and digital sectors. The international body specifically highlighted Nigeria’s achievement of G5-level collaborative regulation, a significant milestone that positions the country among progressive digital economies globally.
The ITU also acknowledged the visionary leadership of the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijjani, whose strategic direction has been instrumental in driving Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda forward.
The Telecommunication Development Bureau reaffirmed its unwavering support for NITDA’s initiatives, pledging to provide comprehensive technical assistance and advanced cybersecurity tools.
This support extends to backing various programs designed to promote inclusive connectivity across Nigeria and establishing functional digital transformation centers throughout the nation. Speaking on behalf of NITDA’s Director-General, Dr. Warowie presented a comprehensive overview of the agency’s strategic priorities that will guide Nigeria’s digital transformation over the coming years. Fourth, the harmonization of regulatory frameworks and technical standards will ensure consistency across Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, facilitating seamless operations for businesses and service providers while maintaining high standards of service delivery and consumer protection.
Both NITDA and the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau identified several priority areas where immediate collaboration will yield transformative results for Nigeria’s digital transformation.
