Safaricom Ethiopia Expands 4G Network Coverage to Bale Zone Boosting Connectivity and Digital Inclusion

Safaricom Ethiopia significantly broadened its national network footprint by officially launching mobile services across Bale Zone, bringing modern connectivity to numerous towns in the region.

This expansion includes key locations such as Robe, Goba, Ali, Meleyu, Selka, Giner, Gasera, Agarfa, Shalo, Salu, Kara Megen, Homa, Goro, and Dinsho, representing a major step in the operator’s ongoing efforts to achieve nationwide network coverage.

The new network in Bale Zone is built on advanced 4G infrastructure, supported by 42 transmission towers and a robust fibre backbone that delivers reliable high speed connectivity. This setup is fully 5G ready, preparing the area for future upgrades to next generation services. Complete interconnection with other networks ensures uninterrupted voice calls and SMS exchanges, while international roaming options further enhance user experience.

This network expansion is also driving substantial economic growth in Bale Zone through job creation. Over 300 positions have already been filled in the covered towns, with projections indicating growth to approximately 1,200 jobs as infrastructure development and service rollout progress.

Residents and businesses can now access Safaricom Ethiopia services via 16 dedicated retail shops, complemented by an expanding network of M-PESA agents, merchants, and retailers.

Safaricom Ethiopia emphasizes that the Bale Zone rollout underscores its commitment to bridging the digital divide by connecting underserved communities, stimulating local economies, and promoting widespread digital inclusion through the development of a resilient and future proof telecommunications network across the country.
