Nigeria is facing an alarming surge in digital threats. According to the July 2025 Global Threat Intelligence Report by Check Point, the country recorded an average of 6,101 cyberattacks per organisation, per week — a massive 67% jump compared to last year.
This makes Nigeria not only the most attacked country in Africa but also one of the top global hotspots for cybercrime.
While the global average stood at 1,947 attacks per week per organisation (a 5% year-on-year increase), Africa reported 3,374 weekly attacks on average — the highest of any region worldwide.
Countries like Kenya, Angola, and South Africa have also faced relentless waves of attacks, but Nigeria’s spike stands out as particularly severe.
The report highlights that:
Experts suggest that Nigeria’s rapid embrace of fintech, e-governance, and digital services has created opportunities that cybercriminals are quick to exploit.
Cybersecurity experts are calling for a prevention-first approach:
If Nigeria does not act swiftly, the consequences could extend beyond financial loss to public trust erosion in digital platforms.
Nigeria’s booming digital economy is at risk. Cybersecurity can no longer be treated as an afterthought — it must be built into the foundation of every innovation
