Tecno Unveils Phantom V2 Fold in Lagos, Targets Global Foldable Market

The foldable smartphone race just got a new challenger. Tecno has officially launched the Phantom V2 Fold in Lagos, Nigeria, positioning itself as a bold competitor to Samsung and Huawei in the global foldable device space.

Building on the success of its first-generation Phantom Fold, Tecno has doubled down on design and innovation. The V2 Fold features a sleeker hinge, a lighter body, and a more durable flexible AMOLED display. At 7.85 inches when unfolded, the device offers a tablet-like experience while folding neatly into a pocket-sized smartphone.

One standout feature is the improved multitasking system, allowing users to run three apps simultaneously with fluid drag-and-drop functionality. Tecno has also optimized its HiOS Fold interface to take better advantage of the wide-screen format, giving productivity enthusiasts more flexibility.

On the performance side, the Phantom V2 Fold is powered by MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity chipset, paired with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. The battery supports 66W fast charging, promising a full day’s power in just under 30 minutes of charge time.

Industry watchers note that Tecno’s aggressive pricing strategy could be its biggest advantage. While Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series remains out of reach for many African consumers, Tecno’s foldable comes in at nearly half the price — making cutting-edge tech more accessible.

The launch in Lagos also sends a strong message: African consumers are no longer just spectators in the global smartphone race; they are active participants shaping demand. With the foldable market projected to grow exponentially in the next five years, Tecno’s bold play may prove to be a turning point for African tech brands on the global stage.
