Strongest telecom brands from Africa have made a remarkable showing in the latest Brand Finance Telecoms 150 report. MTN Group and Safaricom secured positions in the world’s top 10 for brand strength. This achievement underscores the rising global influence of African telecom operators through high levels of trust, reputation, reliability, and customer loyalty.

According to the report, Safaricom ranked fifth among the strongest telecom brands worldwide. It achieved a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 88.0 out of 100 and earned an elite AAA brand strength rating. MTN Group followed closely in sixth place with a BSI score of 87.3 and the same AAA rating. These scores reflect exceptional consumer perceptions in their core markets.

The strongest telecom brands ranking measures factors such as reputation, reliability, preference, recommendation, and emotional resonance. Both MTN and Safaricom excel due to consistent investments in network infrastructure, digital services, and customer experience. These efforts have transformed them from traditional connectivity providers into essential digital platforms offering financial services, education, and more.

Safaricom maintains exceptional brand loyalty in East Africa. Its leadership in Kenya, combined with the widespread use of M-Pesa for mobile money, drives this strength. The company’s expansion into Ethiopia and ongoing infrastructure upgrades further bolster its position as one of the strongest telecom brands in the region.

MTN Group operates one of the largest telecom networks on the continent. It serves over 300 million subscribers across Africa and the Middle East. Strong performances in key markets like Nigeria and Ghana, along with expanding digital and fintech offerings, contribute to its high ranking among the strongest telecom brands.

Despite operating at a smaller global scale than some international giants, MTN and Safaricom demonstrate deep cultural relevance. Consumers in Africa rely on these brands daily for essential services. This everyday integration builds lasting trust and loyalty that elevates them in global brand strength metrics.

The Brand Finance report also highlights other African telecom operators performing well. Companies such as Vodacom and Orange maintain notable global presence. Together, these results illustrate Africa’s growing role in the worldwide digital economy.

The success of MTN and Safaricom in the strongest telecom brands ranking points to broader trends. Rising smartphone adoption, mobile broadband growth, and fintech-driven inclusion accelerate progress in African markets. These factors help local operators build powerful brands that resonate strongly with users.
