Burkina Faso Launches Educational Television Broadcasting (RTE) to Bridge Learning Gaps in Rural Areas

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the Ministry of Digital Transition, Postal and Electronic Communications officially launched the Educational Television Broadcasting (RTE) in Ouagadougou. The launch ceremony was presided over by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, represented by the Minister of State in charge of Territorial Administration, Émile Zerbo, and attended by Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, Minister of Digital Transition, Postal and Electronic Communications.

The RTE will broadcast over 30 programs focused on citizenship, education and training, health, sport, environmental awareness, cultural values, and digital innovation. The initiative is designed to transform learning and knowledge dissemination for students across Burkina Faso, with a particular emphasis on rural and underserved areas. By providing educational content through radio and television, the government aims to make education more inclusive and equitable for all.

To support the RTE’s operations and enhance the capacity of the Ministry of Basic Education, the Ministry of Digital Transition donated 15 computers. This contribution underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging digital tools to improve education and promote widespread access to knowledge.

Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabane emphasized the role of digital technology in extending the reach of RTE, noting that all content will also be broadcast online through the RTE website. Additionally, a large-scale coverage initiative, known as the zero-white zone project, will ensure that RTE programming is accessible throughout the national territory.

The RTE studio is located in District 5 of Ouagadougou, in the Zone du Bois, and broadcasts on 107.4 FM. Plans are underway to extend its availability to national terrestrial television, further expanding access to educational content across Burkina Faso.
