In an exciting moment during the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) National Summit and International Youth Day Celebration that took place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nkeiruka Ifeonu was announced as the winner of the Next-Generation Talent in Product Design award.
The award founded by the Former US president, Barack Obama recognized and highlighted her innovation in Nigeria’s healthtech space, particularly for her standout contribution to Onewellness, a patient management app that she designed at OneHealthNG, where she currently works as a Product Designer. Despite being early in her career, Nkeiruka has proven that impact isn’t defined by years of experience but by the ability to design with empathy, strategy, and clarity.
Onewellness is now actively used by 50,000+ users including patients, doctors, and pharmacists across Nigeria. It is transforming the way healthcare is accessed and managed, simplifying communication between patients and providers, organizing care schedules, and making everyday medical tasks easier and more intuitive.
One of the most innovative aspects of the product is the Talk to a Doctor and Ask a Pharmacist features which contributed majorly to a 5X increase in User Acquisition and allows users to book consultations and speak directly with a doctor or licensed pharmacist, all within the app, without needing to visit a hospital. Patients can pay, chat securely, and even view the doctor’s notes from the consultation, making healthcare more convenient, transparent, and patient-friendly.
Nkeiruka also designed the Check Your Vitals feature, which enables users to monitor critical health metrics like blood pressure, glucose levels, stress levels, and more directly from the app. This empowers users to take control of their health and stay proactive without needing constant in-person visits.
Beyond the patient facing side of the product, she also led the design of the Onewellness backend dashboard, a critical internal tool that helps OneHealthNG’s care partners manage patient records, appointments, consultation feedback, and vitals, all from one organized, easy to navigate system. The dashboard seamlessly connects the operations and customer care team with patient needs, contributing to the success of the app as a full fledged healthcare ecosystem.
Nkeiruka’s ability to understand user behavior, solve problems thoughtfully, and pay attention to the small but important details made Onewellness a product far ahead of what most would expect from someone at her level. She has significantly contributed to a 47% in sales on the Onewellness app.
Her design approach is deeply user-centered, focusing not only on visual appeal, but on how people feel when using the product. That mindset is what set Onewellness apart and why it’s being celebrated as one of the most effective digital tools for healthcare management in Africa.
